Nairobi, the capital and largest city of Kenya, is a vibrant and bustling metropolis that serves as a gateway to the rest of the country. The name “Nairobi” is derived from the Maasai phrase “Enkare Nairobi,” which translates to “place of cool waters,” a reference to the Nairobi River that flows through the city. Nairobi is often referred to as the “Green City in the Sun” due to its lush greenery and sunny weather. Founded in 1899 as a rail depot on the Uganda-Kenya Railway, Nairobi quickly grew to become the capital of Kenya and a major hub for commerce and culture. Today, Nairobi is home to over 4 million people and boasts a thriving business scene, with numerous international companies and organizations having their headquarters in the city. The Nairobi Securities Exchange is one of the largest in Africa, and the city is also home to several world-class museums, including the Karen Blixen Museum and the Nairobi National Museum.
